to give this even a better flavor add a teaspoon of salt same of garlic powder and a few bay leaves then boil for the required time. this is how I (La Mex Taqueria)does it.

These tongue tacos are indeed a delicious dish, but you unfairly characterize tongue as served at any decent Kosher/Jewish deli as "tough, thick meat" when in reality properly prepared thinly sliced tongue is smooth like butter and wonderfully mild.
A french dish called something like Tongue Lucullus is a mille-feuille of tongue and foie gras and may be the single most delicious thing I've ever eaten.
