XCOM is an interesting example because its somewhat like a squad-based tactical RPG, mixed with a turn-based strategy game. Aside from the dice rolls, you also have to manage your characters speed, health, and fatigue. And speaking of health, it has a very in-depth health system, with area-specific damage. Actuallly, you even have to manage inventory for each of them as well.That being said, it certainly has strategy elements involved. The number of characters you have on a mission plays a big part, and theres a huge emphasis on strategy and making your guys work as a team. Plus when youre out of the battle grid, the entire game is focussed on research, development, manufacturing, and patrolling the skies.I think really the game is too much of a strategy game to label it as an RPG. That being said, its too much of an RPG to label it as a strategy game.I guess it just sits neatly on the line between.
